Evanston Public Library Design Competition

ARCHITECT

 Daniel Krief, R.A.
LOCATION

 Design Phase Only
PROJECT TYPE

 Library

PROJECT DETAILS

For this design competition, DKA designed an entirely new building to be situated on the site of the existing library. This requirement led DKA to retain some of the identifying design elements of the existing building while adding qualities of interest, serenity, stability and invitation to enter the building. The classical elements of the porticoes are in scale with pedestrians who approach and enter the building. The colonnade leads through the full height opening to an information center. The rotunda is both modern and classical. It symbolizes and functions as the visual, circulatory and information hub of the Library.
